THE QUEST
LAST ROSE is a music and arts quest created by violinist Ruth Palmer, in which the Irish folksong The Last Rose of Summer (and Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst's eponymous virtuosic variations) becomes a symbol of the Sinai Wild Rose, endangered by climate change.
Starting with the community-based LAST ROSE in Libraries, Ruth celebrates UK libraries as vital hubs of community resilience, knowledge sharing, and inclusion. In these free community performance workshops, she weaves the music together with the true story of this rare, endangered species (Rosa arabica) and the dedicated scientists and local Bedouin guardians who worked together to save it from climate peril—illustrating a powerful, universal tale of survival and community.
